The upload risk nobody mentions
Many “free PDF compress” sites ask you to upload Aadhaar scans, marksheets, or salary slips to a stranger’s server. Even if they promise deletion, you have already shared sensitive files with an unknown operator and CDN logs.

When compression works best
Photo and scan-heavy PDFs shrink the most because we recompress page images. Pure text PDFs may only drop a little — that is expected. Use Strong for email/portal limits, Balanced for everyday sharing, Light when you need sharper pages.
Practical workflow for Indian forms
If a portal rejects files over 200–500 KB, compress first, then merge related pages with PDF Merge if needed. Always open the download page to save the result — and keep originals offline as backup.
